The Trovita orange fruit is medium to large, but is slightly smaller, juicier and seedier than the Washington. It has a pleasant sweet and mild flavor and the fruit is known as the navel-less navel. The tree bears heavily in alternate years and is a vigorous grower with dense, dark green foliage. It grows well in the desert and cooler coastal California regions. The story of this fruit is that it originated as a seedling from a Washington orange that had fallen from the tree, hence its name provided by H.B. Front in Esperato meaning "found". It was released to the public in 1935.
