The Tarocco blook orange produces a fruit size that medium-large with a raspberry flesh and few seeds with a rich distinctive flavor. It was introduced to Florida from the Mediterranean around 1880 and its distintive color comes from the presence of anthocynanin which is the color producing element found in pomegranates. The tree is less productive than other blood oranges, but yields bigger fruit with a higher juice content. The fruit grows toward the inner canopy and does not hold well to the tree. The tree is best grown in interior California in an open habit.
